cheat cheat cheat

cheating is not ok. i'm not talking about cheating on people (thought i guess this is a form of cheating on people?) but cheating on tests and in sports.

maybe it's just how i was raised..morals, you know, that whole thing. but i still don't think it's acceptable to ever cheat on a test in any way at all. someone else does not agree, he says it's fine if the test doesn't matter. i say it's still the principal, you shouldn't be cheating no matter what the test is, even if it's a silly practice test. he says if the test doesn't matter then it just doesn't matter and you can cheat all you want. i still say it's the principal. people who cheat on tests are just a different breed than people who would never think of cheating on a test.

then there's..not cheating exactly..but cheap shots in sports. like in tennis, when you slice the ball, it hits the net and barely goes over. so you put your hand up and apologize to your opponent because it was a cheap (and unintended) shot, and because it would be unsportsmanlike to not put your hand up to apologize. (because people who slice and slice and slice are not really up to the skill level of people who are actually really skilled. just watch guys in the top 100 on the atp tour. do you see the top guys slicing all the time, hitting cheap shots so that their opponent has to run all over the court, so that they themselves don't have to put in as much effort? no. you don't see that. because the top guys are talented and don't need to be hitting cheap shots.) and soo anyway, this person who thinks cheating on tests is ok, thinks cheap shots in tennis would be ok..and that putting your hand up to say sorry, would be similar to apologizing for hitting a home run.

SO RIDICULOUS. i don't know why i'm so outraged and upset about this whole thing but this discussion has happened several times over the last 2-3 weeks. i just can't understand. sure, people are entitled to their own opinions. people are entitled to have their own values and history and beliefs. but my brain just can't handle how someone can think cheating is all fine and ok and not an issue, even if the test is completely meaningless!

I think most of it comes down to integrity. And honesty. And anyway, a person who would cheat on a silly meaningless test, well, what else would they cheat on? taxes? important tests? a spouse?

All good is hard. All evil is easy. Dying, losing, cheating, and mediocrity is easy. Stay away from easy.

When people cheat in any arena, they diminish themselves-they threaten their own self-esteem and their relationships with others by undermining the trust they have in their ability to succeed and in their ability to be true. - Cheryl Hughes

  1. I'm with you ... any form of cheating is just despicable. I think once you make yourself believe that one form of cheating is okay you just open the door to cheating at everything and anything.
